The BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) is the professional body that governs RCCs in the province. Many extended benefits plans across British Columbia recognize RCCs and CCCs as eligible providers. ICBC Coverage for BC Residents
If you live in British Columbia and have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, you may be eligible for counselling sessions covered by ICBC. This includes therapy to help with symptoms such as anxiety, trauma, pain management, stress, and adjustment issues following a crash.
ICBC typically pre-approves a set number of therapy sessions within the first 12 weeks post-accident, with the possibility of extensions depending on your needs. Our therapists are experienced in working with ICBC clients and can help guide you through the process of accessing care under your claim number.
How much does it cost to see a therapist in BC?
The cost of therapy in BC varies depending on the therapist’s credentials and experience. At The Sereda Psychotherapy Group, individual sessions with our therapists typically range from $140 to $160. We also offer affordable sessions with intern therapists for $35 per session.
Do you need a referral to see a therapist in BC?
No, you do not need a referral to see a therapist or counsellor in BC. You can book a session directly with one of our therapists, including those registered with BCACC or CCPA.
How can I find a therapist in BC?

Is psychotherapy covered by MSP in BC?
No, psychotherapy is not covered by BC’s Medical Service Plan (BC Public Health). However, most extended health benefit plans do provide partial or full coverage for sessions with RCCs, CCCs, and/or pre-licensed therapists.
What is the difference between CCC and RCC?
RCCs are Registered Clinical Counsellors certified through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), primarily recognized in BC. CCCs are Canadian Certified Counsellors certified through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), recognized nationally. Both are qualified mental health professionals, and have similar educational and practicum requirements for licensing.
